March 18th, 2009: Nolan gets his Pinewood Derby Trophy.

At the recent Pack 221 meeting, Nolan was finally able to be awarded his 2nd place (in his Den) Pinewood Derby trophy and to get the Winnebago back. Den Leader John wanted to make sure Nolan was awarded in front of the whole pack, just as if it was the actual day of the Derby.

Below, Nolan and Den Leader John after Nolan received his trophy and Winnebago.

March 14th, 2009: Travis' 1st Haircut and last day of skating.

Travis really needed his first haircut, so Kelly did it at home. The first two pictures are before.

Below: The first cut.

The ice at the Taco Johns Events Center was removed March 16th, so on the 14th we headed over to let the boys have one last open skate. It was such a nice day to play outside, we ended up only making it to the last 30 minutes of skating, but that meant they had the entire rink to themselves. The city honored the Capitals kids on this day by letting them skate for free all day.

Also free this day was broomball, so both the boys stuck around after skating to play some broomball with the older kids. This was a great fun and relaxed afternoon at the rink!

March 7-8, 2009: Hockey in Rapid City and A Family Trip To Mount Rushmore

Barrett and Nolan both played hockey in Rapid City, SD for this Jamboree. Barrett played other first and second year 8 and under kids in cross-ice games using the little goals. He scored a few goals over the weekend and had a great time once we reminded him that it was OK to steal the puck from the other team's players.

The mascot for the new CHL team in Rapid City was around the rink Sunday and helped give the little kids their medals. Below, Barrett is receiving his medal.

Capitals A team below. We only had 5 kids sign up for the trip, but it worked out great and they had a blast getting to play so much hockey!

Nolan (#21) watching Casper get their medals at the Rushmore tournament. Casper won the last game of the season by a goal, so Cheyenne D earned 4th place at this event. Another good weekend of challenge for the kids.

After leaving Rapid City, we went up to Keystone and on to Mount Rushmore for lunch and to view the monument. Below are several photos from our few hours there. It was very interesting because other than a choir group, almost all the other people at the monument were Cheyenne hockey families!
Of course, our little geography bugs really loved the walkway with all the state flags! Delaware even has Nolan's birthday on the flag!

After we had lunch, we went out to the main viewing place. Amy, one of Barrett's teammates, and her sister Mia joined Nolan and Barrett for a great "imitation" picture of the monument. They really tried hard to look the same directions as the faces behind them. It was a great time!

Other than our groceries for our picnic lunch and Barrett's blink, this is a good family picture!

March 1st, 2009: Nolan's 2nd Piano Recital

Nolan's piano teacher had a piano recital for her students at a local "old-folks" home. Nolan played two songs early in the show, and then was a great listener as the older kids played their pieces.

February 25-28, 2009: Scout Community Service!

February 25th, we had Kelly drop us off on the way home from school at the start of the stretch of the Cheyenne Greenway that Nolan's Den is responsible to keep clean. If you don't know, Cheyenne is a very, very windy place so there is always a lot of junk (and tumbleweeds) blown up against fences, etc.

We walked most of our stretch for 1 1/2 hours and the boys collected the bag of trash they are holding in the photo above. They did a great job!
The following Saturday was the Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet, which Nolan, Barrett and Scott attended.

Nolan was given an honorable mention with a few other kids for getting out and providing community service (participating in the food drive and picking up trash on the Greenway). He wanted to share the picture with Barrett. I believe the special patch he received was an old 75th Anniversary of Boy Scouts patch.

Finally, the kids from Nolan's Den that were present at the banquet were all given their Weather Belt Loops (for visiting Scott's office a few weeks earlier) and they also earned their Tiger Cub patches!!!! Nolan is on the left below in front of Scout Leader John (who is also their Den Leader).

February 21-22, 2009: Mite Travel Tournament in Casper

Nolan and his teammates made a bad weather trip up to Casper for their Mite Travel Team Tournament 2009, and even stopped in Douglas for a scrimmage against them on the way home! Kelly had all three boys this weekend in Casper, since Scott had to stay back and work.

Above and Below: Nolan on the far side lining up for a face off.

The Capitals took 3rd place in this tournament, which was won by Hyland Hills, CO. Another great weekend for the boys!
