October 4th, 2008: Denver Pioneers vs. Univ. of Alberta

It was Camp Night at the University of Denver on Saturday, October 4th. Included with the summer hockey camp fees was a ticket for the first DU game (or in this case, exhibition) of the year. DU was playing the University of Alberta. After Scott ended his work day, we all headed down, tailgated on Asbury St. and attended the game. As it turned out, 4 of the 10 kids on Nolan's team were there at the game.

After the game, the entire DU team went into the basketball gym to sign autographs for the summer camp kids. The night was a great experience, as many of the camp "coaches" (DU Players) played a lot in the game, and then the kids got to talk to them after the game and get autographs. One of Nolan's main camp coaches, Patrick Mullen, even scored a goal in the game so he was really excited to see that. Nolan and Patrick talked a lot in the locker room getting ready for camp each day as Nolan usually ended up sitting down near him.

Below, Julian Marcuzzi was the head camp coach of Nolan's week of camp, and here is giving Nolan a high-five for earning a spot on the top U8 team in Cheyenne.

Outside of Magnuss Arena, I caught this picture of the older boys on our walk back to the car. Even Barrett and Travis were able to get the autographs of the team members. Barrett is sporting his jersey from the Frozen Four clinic back in April (which was also held at DU).

We rolled back up I25 and were home by shortly after midnight. It was a fun, but short trip, since Scott had to be back at work at 7am Sunday morning.
